I'm actually here.

This is Jake seeing Piccadilly Circus for the first time.

As a teacher and trip leader, I have learned that these are the moments that matter most. Not the posed group photos. The moment a student looks around and realizes, "I'm actually here."

Travel takes learning past the classroom walls. Students stand where history happened, find their way through unfamiliar cities, meet new cultures, try new things, and discover a world far bigger than the one they know at home. Along the way they gain confidence, independence, curiosity, and memories that last.

I have been lucky to watch students like Jake have these moments. I have also watched students who wanted to go just as badly get left behind, only because their families could not afford the trip.

That is why GoXL matters.

We want more students to have their own "I'm actually here" moment, whatever their family's finances look like.
